Nokia quietly backtracks on Pure UI debut

N okia's announcement of its new Nokia Pure software interface was met with great interest by the online technology community as well as Nokia fans. The digital design language largely matched the company's new logo, though the announcement initially caused some confusion as to whether the user interface would make it to Nokia's mobile hardware.
After that, the company appears to have backtracked somewhat on its new user interface introduction – following the original link to Nokia's Pure website now results in an error message, with no vestiges of the initial announcement. Nokia's announcement of the new Nokia Pure design has raised some hopes among hardcore fans who would love to see - a new Nokia smartphone design.
HMD Global confirmed in a statement: Nokia smartphones do not use the recently announced Nokia Pure design. The classic Nokia brand has an incredible history in mobile phones. Our Nokia phones continue the great momentum associated with the classic Nokia logo. We are proud to build and innovate on this legacy.
Although no reason has been given for the website's current state, it is speculated that it is simply a misunderstanding of Nokia's goals in introducing the new user interface, which was supposed to be used exclusively for digital products such as apps and software. The company denies that Pure UI is used as a kind of "skin" on Android phones, which many news outlets have mistakenly identified as such.
