N okia may be making a comeback in the smartphone market. While the brand’s visibility has been limited to feature phones released by HMD Global in recent years, something completely different is on the horizon. It seems that Nokia is looking for a licensing partner on Reddit. On Reddit, Nokia’s official community manager took the surprising step of announcing that any major phone manufacturer interested in licensing the Nokia brand can get in touch.
The latest Nokia smartphones manufactured by HMD Global are known for their long lifespan and durable construction, despite the fact that software updates have not always been kept up to date. HMD Global has also dropped the Nokia brand from its smartphones.
Of course, if a vague announcement on Reddit is anything to go by, Nokia could be seen on phones again. Of course, that’s certainly unlikely, as Nokia has been scaling back its licensing activities in the consumer market in recent years. Additionally, Nokia would certainly take a close look at who the brand is licensed to, as HMD hasn't taken care of its obligation very well.
