HMD Global has made available its Offgrid satellite-based (NTN) rugged device, which was recently introduced at CES 2025, available in the US market for just $199 (GBP 159, EUR 190, INR 17218) in black on the online marketplace.
At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, HMD unveiled the OffGrid, a device that could be a lifesaver in certain situations. The device offers a satellite connection to the user, who can then call for help if, for example, they are in an accident while hiking.

The device uses the so-called L-band for communication, allowing users to “connect directly to satellites, even in parts of the world where communication is a challenge,” the company said. OffGrid can send text messages via a connected app, so you can message friends and acquaintances in case of trouble. It can also be used to contact emergency services, with whom the user can share their exact coordinates.
The device, weighing just 60 grams, is the size of a keychain, and its battery lasts for three days on a single charge. OffGrid is a small, durable device that works with any smartphone. It measures just 93.88×60.16×12 mm. It establishes a wireless connection with your smartphone and acts as a satellite relay. HMD OffGrid is not the only such device on the market, the Garmin inReach Mini 2 and inReach Messenger Plus offer similar features, but also have navigation support. However, they are more expensive.
