HMD Global today unveiled its latest smartphone, the HMD Fusion, an affordable device whose idea is to change functions and style with a shell. This is how the HMD Fusion will initially be distributed, but additional devices will be available later this year.

F innish HMD Global, the company now known for its own HMD brand, is now preparing to launch a new product, as HMD is introducing its first smartwatch. The model name of the device is HMD Watch P1, and it has now been made public in the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database.
The Watch P1's design relies on a recipe familiar to consumers, namely an organism-like body, rounded corners, a flat display panel, and slightly curved edges. The watch has a rotating side button on the right side, while the microphone hole is located next to it. The speaker is located on the left side. On the back, there are charging pins and sensors for checking the status.
While previous rumors have pointed to a possible HMD smartwatch with a camera, the Watch P1 does not include such features. The Watch P1 supports phones running Android 4.4 or iOS 9 or later, and Bluetooth connectivity is sufficient for versions 4.0 or later. Connection management is done via the Pubu Wear app, which can be downloaded from both Google Play and the App Store.
The watch allows you to make calls, receive notifications, control music playback, and remotely use your phone's camera via Bluetooth. It also comes with an AI-based voice assistant.
The Watch P1 tracks the user's sleep, steps, distance traveled, and a variety of sports performance. It also measures heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. The certification images also show that the watch is available in a variety of strap colors, including white, black, yellow, blue, light green, olive green, and beige.
The HMD Watch P1 is equipped with a 250 mAh battery. The exact battery life is not yet known, as it depends on the system used. Since the device is not based on Google's Wear OS platform, it is expected to offer several days of battery life.
The details revealed in the certificate reveal that the device in question is manufactured by the Chinese company Shenzhen Yawell Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. The company is also known as PUBU, Colmi, and Yawell. So the background of HMD's upcoming watch is murky to say the least, and it is clear that this is not a product developed by HMD itself.
The exact same watch is being sold under the name COLMI P71 Smartwatch, among others. The device can be ordered for under 12 euros (GBP 10, USD 14, INR 1206) from several online stores around the world. The HMD version will probably cost significantly more, and will definitely have some kind of HMD branding. I wonder who will buy a smartwatch with the HMD logo at a higher price just because of a "logo"?!
