Vodafone Albania and Nokia demonstrate 5G network slicing powered by Agentic AI

V odafone Albania and Nokia have teamed up to demonstrate how agentic AI can be used to create dedicated 5G autonomous (SA) network slices in the event of emergencies or unexpected surges in demand. Vodafone Albania and Nokia have successfully demonstrated how Agentic AI can be used to dynamically and rapidly create dedicated network slices in the event of emergencies, large public events or unexpected surges in user demand.

The project combined Vodafone’s 5G SA network with artificial intelligence that can analyze network conditions and weather data to make autonomous decisions to optimize network performance. The goal is that the network can “intelligently” allocate resources where they are needed most, rather than relying on pre-set configurations.

The demonstration combined Vodafone’s 5G autonomous network (which delivers 5G end-to-end) with artificial intelligence that can analyze both network conditions, such as traffic and weather data, to make autonomous decisions that instantly optimize performance. Rather than relying on pre-defined configurations, the network can intelligently place resources where they are needed most, providing more efficient, resilient and differentiated connectivity.

This technology underscores the shift towards autonomous networks that can read real-time conditions and usage and then automatically optimize performance without manual intervention. Vodafone and Nokia demonstrated how AI-powered network slicing can support time-sensitive applications, including:

  • Reliable connectivity for businesses operating mission-critical services.
  • Intelligent resource allocation during major public events, concerts and sporting occasions.
  • Enhanced network resilience during unexpected peaks in demand.
  • Efficient management of network capacity through AI-driven automation.

Together with Vodafone Albania, we are demonstrating how this capability can unlock entirely new service models and drive the next wave of 5G innovation.”

    By combining connectivity and AI, Vodafone Albania and Nokia are helping to pave the way for future services that benefit businesses, public institutions and society. For example, Vodafone Albania’s 5G network is being used by Tirana International Airport (TIA) to support advanced airport security solutions, such as fast, secure push-to-talk communications between airport teams based on Airbus’ critical Agnet platform.

    In the UK, Vodafone Business became the first operator earlier this year to provide commercial 5G network slicing to corporate customers, giving them access to their own dedicated mobile network segment with guaranteed local performance. The service complements Vodafone Mobile Private Networks (MPNs), which are designed for organisations that require fully customised, self-contained on-site connectivity and maximum control.
