TPG Telecom has installed Nokia’s integrated 5G interleaved passive active antenna (IPAA) on the TPG Telecom website in Brisbane.

Considered the “first global” deployment of the latest generation of Nokia, the news follows the successful integration of Nokia’s IPAA solution across various global networks.

Barry Kezik, CEO of TPG Telecom’s mobile and fixed network said: “We are excited to be the first operator in the world to benefit from another example of Nokia’s market-leading technology,”.

“Twin Beam IPAA will not only help expand 5G coverage, but also achieve the goal of reaching 85% of the population in Australia’s top six cities by the end of the year, but will increase the coverage and capacity of our existing networks. that is, all of our customers will benefit from the installation."

Specifically, Nokia’s IPAA Twin Beam version provides 5G capability and increases the capacity of 3G, 4G and 5G installed on existing mid-band frequencies through advanced antenna technology.

Nokia’s integrated 5G IPAA allows operators to add 5G to an existing site without increasing the number or size of antennas on the site.

It also doubles the range and significantly increases the capacity of technologies used on existing mid-band frequencies, by up to 80%.

Dr. Robert Joyce, Chief Technology Officer, Nokia Oceania said: “Nokia is pleased to bring our market-leading 5G technology to Australia to deliver another 5G world for the first time using TPG Telecom,”.

"The new version of the IPAA will allow operators to increase their coverage, capacity and capabilities to all their customers - 3G, 4G or 5G - by updating their existing website quickly and easily."

Developed in collaboration with CommScope, Nokia IPAA allows operators such as TPG Telecom to upgrade existing sites to 5G by simply replacing their existing antennas with a unit of similar size that supports all legacy technologies, as well as 5G rugged MIMO active antenna in a single solution.
