N eville Ray, a T-Mobile USA employee, said the service provider is not currently working with Samsung or any open RAN vendors.
Neville Ray, president of T-Mobile’s technology division, told an Austin audience at the Informa Big 5G Event that to extend the 2.5 GHz 5G footprint to 260 million users this year, the service provider would have to rebuild over densely populated areas, and later told the Fierce Wireless’s growth plan. it is subject to T-Mobile's major contracts with Ericsson and Nokia.“When we looked at how far we were distributing features and schedules to these vendors, the only place we found these two,” Ray explained. T-Mobile is working with its suppliers to aggregate providers and Voice over New Radio (VoNR), which Ray says the provider is still testing. Ray said T-Mobile is not currently working with Samsung or any open RAN vendor, although the operator has thoroughly considered open RAN when planning its mid-band deployment. “We love open spaces,” Ray said. "We are working hard at ORAN… we have equipment that we are still testing."
