The big production by Tampere-talo Oy and Kantelinen Company Oy, The Snow Queen, was presented. The play, which combines skating, dance and a bit of hockey, can be seen at the Nokia Arena this weekend and at the Yle Arena until June.
The long-awaited big Snow Queen production changes the year at the Nokia Arena. Friday's premiere must have been a happy relief for the hundreds of people involved in the production in various ways.
The artistic working group, director-choreographer Reija Wäre, composer Tuomas Kantelinen, screenwriter Melissa A. Thompson, lighting designer Mikki Kunttu, costume designer Erika Turunen, disguise designer Minna Pilvinen and choreographer Anu Oksanen, responsible for skating the formation, are deeply committed to their work.
Despite the annual slippage, there were only a few changes in the original, partly international, range of performers. The biggest change is the absence of Kiira Korvi from the title role, but Laura Lepistö, who originally skated in the role of Keva, was transformed into the perfectly icy Snow Queen.
The Snow Queen ambitiously combines figure and figure skating, dance and ice hockey. The entire ice rink is in use, podiums have been built on the edges, which are used in some of the dance scenes. We dance on ice with skates, but also without skates. The extremely subtle lights create a visual environment for the story.
The audience surrounds the performers, and the experience is always partly location dependent. In principle, the oval stand gives you a great opportunity to see everything openly and enjoy the creation of the movement. Unless you're sitting behind the cameras of YLE, like part of the audience at least at the premiere. The Snow Queen will be presented at the Nokia Arena in Tampere on Saturday 31.12.2022 at 14:00 and 19:00 and on Sunday 01.01.2023 at 14:00 and 19:00.
