Nokia wins UK FRAND lawsuit against OPPO

N okia has now won a new patent case against OPPO in the UK. This win will lead to the next FRAND trial, which could result in Nokia getting a license agreement or a ban against OPPO in the UK market.

Nokia has won the right to a UK FRAND lawsuit against OPPO as the Supreme Court joined the Mannheim and Hague courts in finding EP2981103 essential, according to Foss Patents.

Nokia announced on Tuesday that the London-based High Court of Justice (formerly the High Court of England & Wales) has ruled against Nokia in its patent enforcement proceedings relating to the 4G/5G standard patent EP2981103 regarding the "allocation of preamble sequences". As a result, the Supreme Court holds a FRAND hearing.

This ruling could lead to a ban on the sale of OPPO smartphones in the UK as well. According to the report, Nokia and OPPO's arguments will be examined during further hearings. OPPO may be planning to appeal the ruling in the UK, even after being banned in Germany.

The German regional court in Mannheim found that OPPO infringed Nokia's SEPs covering 4G and 5G technology.
