M obile phone giant Nokia is spreading its business tentacles into the metaverse. The Finns use it to provide remote assistance to brewery workers and aircraft technicians.

The company has outlined a phased plan for 2020 that embodies its intention to better position the company for changing markets and meet customer needs.

Robert Joyce, CTO of Nokia Oceania, said: "That the delivery of Metaverse is part of the strategy. Nokia, he said, is using the metaverse to explore value chain management operations in breweries, aerospace workshops and Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality offerings".

In 2021, Nokia announced plans to launch a data marketplace based on distributed ledger technology (DLT). The aim of the new platform was to facilitate secure data trading while making life easier for businesses and communications service providers (CSPs).

In 2022, Nokia began working with an Australian university to create a 5G-connected microbrewery using metaverse technology. Academics from the University of Technology Sydney's Brewery Technology Laboratory worked with researchers from Germany's twin facility at the University of Dortmund using augmented reality (AR).

Moreover, Nokia's Global Strategy and Technology Director, Nishant Batra, speaking at the recently concluded World Economic Forum (WEF), stated that the metaverse will have an immediate and most significant impact on industries than on the consumer market.
