Nokia plans to cut 253 jobs in Finland – Consultations on changes begin

N etwork technology company Nokia plans to cut up to 253 jobs in Finland, *Helsingin Sanomat* reports. The reductions will affect the cities of Espoo, Tampere, and Oulu, with Nokia set to begin consultations regarding the changes on October 12. Nokia has employed approximately 6,800 people in Finland.

According to *Helsingin Sanomat*, Nokia informed its employees about the matter on Wednesday.

"Our goal in Finland is to continue investing in strategically important areas, such as the defense sector and opportunities offered by artificial intelligence and data centers," wrote Mikko Hautala, Nokia’s country manager for Finland, in an email to employees obtained by *Helsingin Sanomat"

"The planned changes are not easy, nor will they be easy to implement. However, they are necessary to ensure our competitiveness in a rapidly changing operating environment," Hautala wrote."

The cuts are part of the cost-saving program Nokia launched in 2023, which aims to achieve savings of €800 million to €1.2 billion by the end of 2026.
