N okia has applied for permission in the United States and Finland to ship telecommunications equipment to Russia. In order to fulfill previously concluded contracts, Nokia requested an export license for the delivery of telecommunications equipment to Russia. After these are completed, the supplier leaves the country, and a separate company provides technical support for its products./p>

The fact is that Finland's Nokia, one of the world's largest telecommunications equipment manufacturers, has applied for an export license to ship to Russia from the US Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the ministry. Foreign Affairs of Finland was told to RBC by a source close to one of the telecom operators and another to the Russian government.

After the start of a special military operation, the US, the EU and other countries imposed sanctions on high-tech exports to Russia: those who want to ship such products must obtain a special permit. According to one interlocutor, the approval of the American regulatory authority was necessary for the European company because Nokia acquired the French-American equipment manufacturer Alcatel-Lucent in 2016, and some of the patents were recorded in local companies.

A request to the Finnish regulatory authority was required as the equipment is expected to be shipped from that country. "We are not talking about the acquisition of equipment necessary for network expansion, but about the parts necessary to maintain the normal operation of the existing networks for three years," emphasized the interlocutor of RBC. "Negotiations with all clients are in the final stages.
