Nokia expects Europe's largest 5G factory installation

O perator Iliad Group, Nokia and its subsidiary Alcatel Submarine Networks have combined the largest industrial 5G network in Europe, covering a 50,000 square meter site in France.

The network will be installed at the Alcatel Submarine Networks systems manufacturing and assembly plant and was installed in Calais, more than two years ago.

In a statement announcing the opening of the network, Alcatel Submarine Networks noted that it will "eventually" cover 11 buildings and loading docks and use 59 5G small cell antennas.

The introduction is part of attempts to increase its use in digital technology activities. He hopes the network will enable better management of resources, better management of workers, introduction of energy consumption monitoring system and development of maintenance processes. The ultimate goal of current and future use of industrial IT systems is to improve facility performance.

The deployment is the latest use of 5G for private industry networks, an often mentioned business case for the technology, and many industry players consider it a significant opportunity for operators.
