HMD Global is taking a big step towards sustainability with its announcements at IFA 2022 – its new devices will be made from recycled materials, and the company is also launching a new Circular subscription to extend device life and reduce upgrade costs.

The metal frame of the latest model of the X series is made of 100% recycled aluminum, while the plastic back is made of 65% recycled material. Even the sales packaging is made from 70% recycled paper (all FSC certified). And of course, there's no charger in the box, so it's smaller and easier to carry.

The Nokia X30 5G itself brings a 6.43-inch AMOLED display – a shift in direction for HMD, which hasn't used AMOLED since the Nokia 9 PureView. It's an FHD+ (20:9) panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and 450 nits typical brightness (700 nits peak). The display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.

The rear camera also has Corning protection – Gorilla Glass DX+. A 50 MP main camera (1/1.57-inch, 1.0 µm native pixels, 4-in-1 binning) with OIS and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (123°, 1/3.06 Customs Service) is located in front of it. . The selfie camera has a 16-megapixel sensor (1.0 µm native pixels, but also supports 4-in-1 binning).

The Nokia X30 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 695 – not exactly a powerhouse, but a very efficient 6nm chipset. Considering HMD uses Snapdragon 480 chips for its 5G phones, this is still a major upgrade. You can choose from two configurations: 6/128 GB and 8/256 GB (UFS 2.2 storage).

The X30 enjoys what HMD calls the “3-3-3 promise” – 3 OS updates, 3 years of security patches and an extended 3-year warranty. The phone starts with Android 12, so it should last until version 15. In addition, all personal data is stored on servers in Hamina, Finland, where it is subject to strict EU regulations. Speaking of security, there's an under-display fingerprint reader and face unlock.

The phone is powered by a 4,200mAh battery that can be charged at 33W (USB-PD 3.0 PPS). The battery promises to retain most of its capacity after 800 cycles.

On the connectivity side, there's USB-C 2.0, 5G (below 6GHz) with two NanoSIMs (and one eSIM), Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and an IR blaster. The body of the phone is dust and water resistant according to the IP67 standard.

The Nokia X30 5G will be available worldwide starting today at a base price of EUR 530 (GBP 457, USD 529 and INR 42152). You can choose between Cloudy Blue or Ice White color variants.
