Nokia Sues Pornhub Owner Files Lawsuit Against Aylo Holdings
07. 10. 2026 Wednesday / By: Robert Denes / Industrial / Exact time: BST / Print this pageN okia has continued its patent litigation by filing a lawsuit against Aylo Holdings, the owner of Pornhub, in Texas, USA. The company - formerly known as MindGeek - owns several other adult entertainment sites in addition to Pornhub, including YouPorn, RedTube, and Tube8. Its portfolio of paid services includes brands such as Brazzers.
Nokia accuses Aylo of using its patented inventions without authorization to power its services. The patents in question relate to video technologies, specifically video compression. In total, Nokia alleges that Aylo has infringed upon seven of its patents across various lawsuits filed against five companies within the Aylo group.
In its lawsuit, Nokia claimed that Aylo failed to respond to attempts to reach a patent licensing agreement. Patent licensing represents a significant portion of Nokia's overall business. The company has sought to expand its licensing portfolio beyond traditional patents covering mobile networks and connectivity to include areas such as video technology.
Previously, Nokia filed lawsuits against Paramount in August 2025 and Warner Bros. in November 2025. At the same time, Nokia has concluded licensing agreements with several streaming providers in recent years; for instance, Amazon and Snap have reached agreements to license Nokia's patents. The agreement with Amazon was reached after a year and a half of legal battles. In addition, agreements regarding video technology patents were concluded with several device manufacturers.
Since 2000, Nokia has invested more than €150 billion in research and development. According to Nokia, its inventions have significantly influenced the development of all video codecs brought to market, ranging from the H.264/AVC standard in the early 2000s to the H.266/VVC standard finalized in 2020. These technologies - known as codecs - enable the more efficient transmission of large video files over networks by reducing file size.
