CES or the International Consumer Electronics Show is the premium event of the technology sector. It will take place between January 9 and 12, 2024 at the usual location, the Las Vegas Convention Center, where HMD Global, or HMD America, will now also be present. This year, the Finnish company that operates Nokia-branded devices rented a booth in Murano 3201A, which is the location of the meeting. Last year, HMD struck a similar deal and unveiled several US-based devices.

We can criticize Nokia for flooding the mobile market with dozens of hard-to-remember devices, but we can't deny that the Finnish giant has also delivered bold new designs that were far ahead of their time, from the gaming-focused N-Gage to the cinema-like N93 to the fashion-conscious 7380 as "lipstick". In contrast, today's smartphones mostly play it safe due to usability and sales concerns, but that doesn't mean a quirky design won't sell. There is definitely room for innovation and plenty of room for creative ideas. This oddly shaped phone, for example, changes the design formula significantly, and while it looks like a futuristic device, it also raises some important usability questions.
The development of Nokia phones is one of the most significant chapters in the history of mobile communication. The company started manufacturing mobile phones in the 1980s, but the real breakthrough was achieved in the 1990s. The iconic Nokia 3310, which was introduced in 2000, became a symbol of durability and simplicity - and the main topic of a huge meme - with more than 100 million units sold worldwide.
In the early 2000s, Nokia dominated the mobile phone market, their devices were characterized by innovative design and reliability. However, the introduction of smartphones in 2007, such as the Apple iPhone and Google Android, presented the company with serious challenges. Due to the slow response to the smartphone market, Nokia lost its leading position and found itself again with great difficulty.
The company sold its mobile phone business to Microsoft in 2014, but later returned to the mobile market in 2016 when HMD Global took over the Nokia brand license. The new Nokia phones use the Android operating system and build on their old values and try to win over customers again.
The Finnish giant may have flooded the market with forgettable mobile models in recent years, but now it looks like they may be preparing for something that will sound huge. Whether this bang is the sound of fireworks accompanying market success, or the sound of a crash on the ground after a fall, only time will tell. One thing is for sure, they managed to present such a bizarre but at the same time exciting design that is hard to leave without a word.
Nokia has already tried a similar, pill-shaped mobile design in the past. The N-Gage, which was also intended for game consoles and failed miserably, belonged to this category. Now, however, a design for a smartphone model in the shape of a pill, or if you prefer, a lipstick, has surfaced.
Nokia is planning a mini touch screen on the back of the phone, which can even function as a digital clock, and the mandatory camera or cameras would be placed next to it. The "face" of the phone would be the usual almost bezel-less full touch screen with a built-in front camera. Of course, all of this is still in the pill form shown in the pictures. We will probably never know the exact reason for this strange design, but it sure was good enough to get everyone talking about it. However, the display on the back leaves some objections, after all, we will not be able to put the device on the table without having to worry about scratching the display.
The device called Nokia Infinity Pro is currently only a draft, and it is even conceivable that it will never reach store shelves!
