N EW DELHI: Telecom maker Nokia wants to support India's participation in developing sixth-generation or 6G technology standards in the coming years, even as the country is expected to have pan-India 5G coverage by 2023-24.

“We reaffirm our commitment to enable our partners to rapidly deploy 5G, which is likely to be one of the fastest deployments in the world,” a Nokia India spokesperson said on Wednesday.

India's leading telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel started their 5G services from October 1 and will cover the entire country by 2023-24 with their 5G networks based on standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) architectures.

"...Every week we support the implementation of thousands of pages in various circles," added the spokesperson.

In 2023, Nokia India said the government will continue to support the digital ecosystem to take advantage of 5G technology.

According to the spokesperson, in 2023, private networks will spread more widely among companies and enterprises for the sake of increased efficiency and security.

Ricky Corker, director of customer services at Nokia, previously told ETTelecom that the first private networks based on 5G will be operational in India within two quarters.

Notably, Airtel with Tech Mahindra recently deployed a private 5G network at domestic carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra's Chakan facility.

"We hope to support India's full and equal participation in the development of 6G standards over the next few years as our R&D engineers here continue to contribute to global collaboration," the spokesperson said.
