HMD Global, the licensee of the Nokia brand, announced the launch of the Nokia C200 and Nokia G100 in the US market in January, and the two low-cost phones will be available for purchase in the coming weeks from the retailer Boost Mobile in the US. These are the first Nokia phones to be offered by wireless carriers.
These two Nokia phones are HMD Global's entry-level offerings. They boast modest technical features and are not best suited for power users. The Nokia G100 is a slightly better spec out of the two. It boasts a 6.5-inch HD+ edge-to-edge display. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor and runs Android 12 out of the box.
HMD Global has equipped the Nokia G100 with three cameras on the back. We have a 13MP primary shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The company offers a number of camera features, including an AI-powered night mode. There is an 8 MP camera on the front for video calls and selfies. This phone has a side fingerprint reader embedded in the power button. It also supports facial recognition. The device is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, which according to HMD Global can last up to two days on a single charge. Of course, battery life depends on how you use your phone.
If the Nokia G100 is still too much, or perhaps too big, the Finnish company has a more modest phone in the form of the Nokia C200. The latter is quite compact, with a display diagonal of only 6.1 inches. The smaller package means it drops to a 4,000mAh battery. However, HMD Global still promises a two-day battery life. This is probably due to the more efficient MediaTek Helio A22 processor. It's a 12nm chipset, compared to the 28nm Snapdragon 615 in the Nokia G100.
The Nokia C200 also runs Android 12 out of the box. But it does not include a fingerprint scanner. You only get facial recognition for biometric unlocking. This model also has only one camera on the back, a 13 MP sensor. The front-facing selfie camera is an 8 MP unit.
The Nokia C200 and Nokia G100 will be available in Boost Mobile in September. The Nokia C200 is priced at USD 119.99 (GBP 103, EUR 119 and INR 9535) and is available in a single gray color. The latter will be available in Nordic Blue for obvious reasons at a slightly more expensive price of USD 139.99 (GBP 120, EUR 139 and INR 11124).
