HMD Global bootloader unlock policy is not conducive to users who are interested in modifying or rooting Nokia smartphones. The company still has not provided a bootloader unlock method for any of its devices except the Nokia 8.

The Nokia 8 was the first and last Nokia phone to receive the official bootloader unlock method, while unofficial guides for other devices appeared online.

In any case, in the XDA forums, Hikar Calyx, a senior XDA member and longtime member of the Nokia community, posted a guide to unlocking the bootloader on the current Nokia featured device the Nokia 8.3 5G.

If you are running Nokia 8.3 5G 00WW_1_150-B01 or earlier, TA-1243 or TA-1251 and want to unlock the boot loader, go to the thread linked below and follow the steps listed here. the first entry. You should flash the ABL binary taken from the prototype firmware using Fastboot, so make sure you have the latest Android Platform Tools installed on your computer.

It’s worth mentioning that Verizon’s exclusive Nokia 8 V 5G UW may also be compatible with the unofficial bootloader unlock method, though that hasn’t yet been introduced.

The warranty is void because unlocking the boot loader is irreversible - you cannot close it again. Due to lack of unit, we have not tried this method on the Nokia 8 V 5G UW, so it is your responsibility if you want to try it.

To use this method, you need to ensure your phone has Android 10 installed - the latest build that we can use this method is 00WW_1_150-B01, you can confirm this by dialing *#*#7837#*#* - if your phone has Android 11 installed (00WW_2_180-B01 or newer), then this bootloader unlock method has been blocked. Please download the prototype bootloader from here:

Then flash it under fastboot mode, and unlock the bootloader - pretty simple:

Code:

fastboot flash abl abl_proto.elf

fastboot reboot-bootloader

fastboot oem unlock-go

Confirm unlock on your phone and it's all done. You can safely update the phone to Android 11 right after unlocked. Since we cannot perform critical unlock properly, we can only do regular unlock, but this should be enough.
