N okia is not going anywhere from traditional phones, and now a rather strange novelty has been released in China. The Nokia 200 4G is the first device from Finnish HMD, which is called a "micro chat" phone, which combines a traditional keypad phone with modern communication features.
The Nokia 200 4G is available in China for a suggested retail price of CNY 199 (GBP 21, EUR 25, USD 29 and INR 2791). The special feature of the device is support for HMD's own micro chat service, which allows the phone to also make video calls to smartphones via the WeChat mini-program.

However, this is not a direct WeChat video call with regular WeChat contacts. The calls are made via HMD's own micro chat service, and the smartphone uses the HMD Micro Chat mini-program within WeChat. In addition, the two Nokia 200 4G phones can make video calls to each other, which makes the device an interesting choice for children, the elderly or users who do not need a full-fledged smartphone, for example.
The idea of the Nokia 200 4G seems simple, offering the ease of use of a simple phone, but they have introduced just the right amount of smarter communication features. For example, through the HMD Micro Chat service, the phone can be used for group chats, voice and video messages, video and voice calls. There is also a so-called electronic fence or geofencing function, which can be useful for security features related to the location of children or elderly users, for example.
In terms of design, the Nokia 200 4G is a very traditional keypad phone. On the front is a 2.4-inch color display, and below it is a physical, nine-key numeric keypad. The phone is available in at least three color variants: black, blue and yellow. The yellow color in particular makes the device look cheerful and not just a boring, gray basic phone.
Technically, the Nokia 200 4G doesn't want to compete with smartphones, but the features are designed with practicality in mind. The phone has a 1450 mAh battery, supports two SIM cards and 4G connectivity. The device supports dual SIM and VoLTE calls, which means that calls should be of better quality than older 2G and 3G calls.
There is also a built-in FM radio that can be listened to through the speaker without headphones. In addition, the Nokia 200 4G has a dual LED flashlight that, judging by the images, can be turned on or off by long pressing the up button.
The Nokia 200 4G has not been released in Finland, at least not yet, and the special features in China are heavily based on WeChat. Therefore, the device will probably not be seen in the European market.
