The home of Nokia phones, HMD Global, has reached the milestone of producing more than one million locally assembled mobile phones in Pakistan in just 6 months after the assembly unit was set up in the country.

Last year, the company partnered with Techno Pak Electronics (Private) Limited to set up Nokia’s phone assembly plant in Pakistan, which invested $ 2 million in its factory and related channels in 2021, creating more than 500 skilled jobs to date.

Arif Shafique, National Manager for Nokia Phones, HMD Global of Pakistan, said: “Nokia Phones has continued to be a favorite product among Pakistani mobile phone users of all ages in recent years. Demand for our handsets is evident in the local market, with more than one million units produced in a very short time.”

The plant has a production capacity of more than half a million mobile phones per month and our goal is to put together a full range of Nokia phones in Pakistan. HMD Global has made a significant contribution to the economy by transferring technology to the local level, tax revenues for national kittens, foreign exchange savings and, most importantly, creating more local jobs.

“Opening the facility in Pakistan is not only an important business decision for us, but also a historic initiative as we further expand our global footprint. Our goal is to increase production every month to be able to meet the needs of our Pakistani customers, ”added Shafique.

He expressed hope that local authorities and regulators would continue to fully support the industry in doing business and investing in Pakistan.

The assembly plant of Nokia phones in Korangi, Karachi, was completed in December 2021. The unit manufactures mobile devices in a variety of designs, with state-of-the-art hardware, distinctive durability and user-friendly operating software. Pakistan has a long-standing relationship with Nokia mobile phones, which has resulted in strong brand affinity. Pakistan’s mobile phone penetration of 193 million and the contribution of the mobile industry to Pakistan is expected to reach $ 24 billion in 2023.
