Launch of Nokia TV in South Africa is delayed14. 12. 2021 Tuesday / By: Robert Denes / Business / Exact time: BST / Print this page
The launch of Nokia TVs in South Africa has been postponed until February 2022 due to various challenges from the distributor.
Ellies said earlier that Nokia Smart TVs and other TV products will hit the market in South Africa before the end of the year.
“One of the exciting opportunities is related to the recent agreement between Ellies Electronics and StreamView that, as of February 2022, Nokia’s products will be marketed exclusively in South Africa and a number of other African countries,” the Ellies Group said in a statement.
Ellies Group CEO Shaun Prithivirajh said: The agreement between Ellies and StreamView will allow the company to bring a wide range of Nokia-branded smart products to the South African market.
StreamView designs, develops and manufactures official Nokia branded smartphones, set-top boxes and related products for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. However, Ellies is currently recovering from a major blow, with a 24.6% drop in revenue between May and October 2021.
Shaun Prithivirajh, CEO of Ellies Group, said: "The overall commercial environment remained limited during this period due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, riots and related looting, and supply chain constraints."
Management is confident that despite the challenges of the Group, a weakened economy and rising unemployment, Ellies is well positioned to take advantage of the growing demand for alternative energy solutions.
“There has been a clear cultural change in the business over the last 24 months and the board has done a lot with the management to adapt the employees to the new focus,” Prithivirajh said.“Our improved cash position, improved governance structures and orderly management team are promising and we look forward to working with Imvula’s new shareholders to steer Elliest towards sustainable profitability,” said Prithivirajh.
