HMD's rugged phone, Terra M, which the company introduced last November, has now become available in several European countries. According to HMD Global, it is not a simple, cheap mobile, but a fully managed communications ecosystem designed for operational use from day one.
According to the official announcement, the device is specifically designed for professional users who require reliable and secure connectivity, whether in hospitals, construction sites, airports or disaster relief. Terra M has IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H ratings, a 2.8-inch glove-friendly touchscreen, a 2510 mAh battery, large physical buttons, a powerful speaker, 4G connectivity, and dual SIM and eSIM support with hotspot mode.
HMD is shipping the device as a fully managed enterprise solution that combines low-cost IoT SIM and eSIM connectivity, Push-to-Talk over cellular, secure communications and device management. The manufacturer promises five years of quarterly security updates, and network packages are provided by Lyfo, with intelligent network switching for use across borders and in harsh environments.
Enterprise customers can deploy the Terra with MDM solutions, while PTT services are provided by Zello and Mobile Tornado. Buy the Terra M now for 2,190 SEK (GBP 175, EUR 202, USD 234 and INR 22,022) and it also supports Threema for end-to-end encrypted messaging, Joplin for secure note-taking, and OsmAnd navigation, which can be used online and offline, with enhanced privacy.
