HMD Global sold 3.2 million smartphones and 11.2 million mobile phones

HMD Global ranked 11th in the global ranking of devices based on data from Counterpoint Research. The ranking is the same as in the third quarter of 2021, but a decrease compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, when the Finnish company was the 8th largest telephone maker in the world.

Looking at smartphone shipments, HMD Global was able to ship 3.2 million Nokia smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2021, which appears to be the best quarter since the third quarter of 2019. In the global ranking of smartphones, HMD is in 14th place, which is 2 places compared to the fourth quarter of 2020.

According to Counterpoint, smartphone shipments grew 17% from the third quarter of 2021 and 35% from the fourth quarter of 2020. Growth was driven by markets such as Southeast Asia and Western Europe.

In terms of function phones, the Finns shipped 11.2 million units in second place in the world. This represents an annual decrease of 8% but an increase of 13% compared to the third quarter of 2021. In total, HMD Global shipped 14.4 million handsets in the fourth quarter of 2021 - 3.2 million smartphones and 11.2 million feature phones. Looking at data for the full year 2021, the company shipped approximately 10.9 million smartphones and 42.3 million feature phones, bringing the total to 53.2 million Nokia handsets.
