I wish you a happy birthday! HMD Global has been entering the smartphone and multifunction phone market for four years now, on December 1, 2016, acquiring the exclusive distribution of Nokia devices. With the launch of its official licensee, a press release was issued announcing the active return of the Nokia brand to the phone market.

HMD Global’s branded HMD, a Finnish mobile phone company, made up the mobile phone business that Nokia sold to Microsoft in 2014 and then bought back in 2016. HMD began marketing smartphones and mobile phones under the Nokia brand on December 1, 2016. The company has exclusive rights to the Nokia brand of mobile phones through a license agreement.

The company was created by inheriting Microsoft’s mobile phone business, which Nokia sold to Microsoft in 2014. HMD works with Google and uses the Android operating system under Android One on its smartphones, while HMD’s feature phones use the Series 30+ platform or most recently Firefox OS-based KaiOS.

HMD is headquartered in Espoo, Finland, and is largely run by former Nokia executives. The first CEO was Arto Nummela, a 17-year veteran of Nokia, until July 2017, when the company’s president, Florian Seiche, took over as CEO. The production was commissioned by Foxconn's subsidiary FIH Mobile.
