HMD Global confirms that the partnership between Nokia and Zeiss has ended

N okia phones have been equipped with Zeiss optics for the longest time. This is due to the fact that the two companies made an agreement a long time ago. Although we have long heard of a Nokia-branded phone with the optical company's name on it. HMD Global, the manufacturer of Nokia-branded phones, has since officially announced that it has ended its long-term collaboration with the camera optics company. – we've already seen this with OnePlus and Hasselblad. Huawei and Leica (now Xiaomi and Leica ) and Nokia and Zeiss, to name just a few.

However, especially with Nokia and Zeiss, things seem to be moving in a new direction for both companies now. The official report reveals that the long-term collaboration between the two companies has ended in 2021, and both Nokia and Zeiss have agreed not to extend the collaborative effort.

According to an official statement from Zeiss: "After a long and successful collaboration, in 2021 ZEISS and HMD Global mutually agreed not to extend their non-exclusive collaboration, which included collaboration with ZEISS on imaging technologies for 'Nokia' brand smartphones." , as a consulting and development partner."

Also, the "Brand Partnerships" section of the Zeiss website no longer includes the Nokia brand. Nokia has not yet received any official information on whether it will collaborate with another camera brand for its future products.

The last phone released by HMD Global that came with Zeiss optics was the Nokia XR20. Prior to this, we have already seen Vivo announce the X60, which includes improvements from the optical company. Which isn't necessarily strange, but at least it signaled that Nokia's partnership with Zeiss isn't an exclusive deal. And indeed it was, according to the company's statement to Android Authority in late 2020. The optical company's other partner is currently Sony, as it appears on the Brand Partnerships page related to mobile imaging.

The collaboration between Nokia and Zeiss goes way back, when the phone manufacturer was still working on Lumia smartphones running the Windows Phone operating system. This was revived when HMD Global took over Nokia's smartphone business.
