HMD Global Expands Its Product Lineup with Chromebook Laptops

28. 11. 2025 Friday / By: Robert Denes / Leakage / Exact time: BST / Print this page

HMD Global is used to being seen primarily as a smartphone maker, but in recent years it has slowly expanded its offering to include tablets and various accessories. Now, according to a new leak, HMD is preparing for an even more significant conquest, namely its first computer in development.

The information should be taken with caution, as it comes from X user @smashx_60, who is sometimes right about leaks. According to him, the device is called the HMD Chromebook CS-1 Flip, but after a while the HMD Book CS-1 Flip also appeared. The "Flip" in the model name strongly hints at the 2-in-1 format, where the display folds completely around.

What makes it even more interesting is that the leaker is considering the operating system of the device, whether it will be the traditional ChromeOS or a completely new operating system created by the merger of ChromeOS and Android. Google's new operating system could significantly change the direction of future Chromebooks, and HMD's early entry raises questions about the company's strategy.

So far, only one thing is known about its internals: HMD's first laptop has an Intel processor. This means it's not an ARM-based solution like many of MediaTek's Kompanio series Chromebooks. However, no detailed performance data has been leaked yet.

HMD has not previously shown any real interest in the laptop market, although some laptops were sold under the Nokia brand by a French company, Off Global. However, that company went bankrupt, and now it seems that HMD is looking to build its own story in the computer sector as well.
