Finnish company HMD Global has launched a new HMD Fuse smartphone aimed specifically at children. According to the company, it is the world's first smartphone that prevents children from filming, broadcasting or viewing nude and sexually explicit content, even while streaming.

J ust a few weeks ago, Finnish HMD, best known for its Nokia phones, launched its latest device in London, the HMD Fuse, which is specifically designed for teenagers. The phone uses SafeToNet HarmBlock+ artificial intelligence built into the operating system to filter harmful content. This AI is capable of blocking the viewing, sending, receiving and production of pornographic images, even during live video calls and streaming. The Fuse smartphone is now available in Australia and the UK through two retailers each on a subscription basis, as well as from Harvey Norman in Australia for AUD 799 (GBP 382, EUR 441, USD 516 and INR 45 492).
The system takes a snapshot of the screen every six seconds and immediately blocks the display if it detects prohibited content, while also locking communication applications. Data never leaves the device and is automatically deleted after detection. Richard Pursey, founder of SafeToNet, the technology behind the technology, stressed that HarmBlock+ is indestructible, does not collect personal data, and works flawlessly in all applications, even through VPNs.
HMD Fuse was developed with more than 37,000 parents, children and guardians to balance functionality, security and privacy. The device will launch with limited functionality, similar to an old Nokia push-button phone, but parents can gradually enable new features, control screen time and track their child's location through a related app.
In terms of hardware, the Fuse is an entry-level smartphone with a 6.56-inch display, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, expandable up to 1TB via microSD. There's a 108-megapixel camera on the back, a 50-megapixel selfie camera on the front, and a 5,000mAh battery for long-lasting battery life.
