HMD has introduced the HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition, a clamshell phone designed for seniors that includes a portable AI companion. You can converse with "Mary"- developed by inTouch - directly through this traditional keypad phone, without the need to install any separate apps.
The new device combines features familiar to seniors - such as large keys and a simple user interface - with a classic clamshell design. You simply open the lid to answer a call and close it to end the call. Technically, it is the same device as the previously released Nokia 2660 Flip. It features a 2.8-inch QVGA display on the inside and a smaller 1.77-inch QQVGA display on the cover. Available in "Cosy Black," the phone weighs 136.4 grams. The device holds an IP54 rating, meaning it is resistant to dust and water splashes.
The standout feature of the Senior Edition is Mary, an AI companion designed to provide company and entertainment for seniors around the clock. For instance, Mary can answer questions, discuss history and nature, tell stories, and play memory games. According to HMD, Mary was created specifically to meet the needs of senior users. It speaks more slowly, allows time for responses, and makes conversations easy to follow. Additionally, the AI remembers past conversations, so stories and memories shared by the user can come up again later.
The purchaser of the phone receives five hours of free talk time. After that, continued use of the AI Buddy costs €19.90 (GBP 16, USD 21, INR 2014) per month. Usage may also incur carrier charges. The trial does not automatically convert into a paid subscription; a separate decision will be made regarding whether to continue the service. inTouch sends a notification to the registered email address as the trial period nears its end. You can cancel your subscription at any time, and without a subscription, you can continue to use the phone's other features as usual. According to inTouch, conversations are encrypted and private.
Technically, the HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition is a standard 4G feature phone. It is powered by the Unisoc T107 SoC and features 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of internal storage. Storage can be expanded up to 32 GB via a microSD memory card. It runs on the S30+ operating system. The phone features a user-removable 1,450 mAh battery, providing up to 8.1 hours of talk time on 4G networks with a single SIM card. Charging is handled via USB-C. Additional features include Bluetooth 5.0, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and an FM radio that works without wired headphones. It also includes an MP3 player and a modest 0.3-megapixel camera with an LED flash.

The collaboration aims to provide seniors with easy access to people they can talk to, helping to alleviate loneliness. The phone is already available for purchase in the UK at a full price of £79.99 (EUR 93, USD 104, INR 9,940).
