G oogle has officially announced its largest-ever investment in India, totaling approximately $15 billion (USD) over the next five years (2026-2030). This capital city will house Google’s first AI hub in the country, located in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh.
The AI hub is a multifaceted investment that combines high-performance gigawatt-scale data center operations, new large-scale energy sources, and an expanded fiber optic network, and has the potential to accelerate AI-driven transformation across all sectors.
In a blog post, the company mentioned that this investment directly aligns with the Indian government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, while the AI Hub will play a role in anchoring the next phase of US-India technology engagement and also create high-value jobs in India.
The AI Hub will include a purpose-built data center campus capable of gigawatts of computing capacity. This facility will be built to the same rigorous standards as global Google services such as Search, YouTube and Workspace. In collaboration with partners such as AdaniConnex and Airtel, this center will provide the reliable, advanced infrastructure that both large enterprises and innovative Indian startups need to build and scale their own AI-based solutions. This AI Hub is said to help India secure its place as a global leader in an AI-driven future.
This investment also includes the construction of a major new international undersea gateway, creating a key connectivity hub on India’s east coast. This new route will complement existing ports in Mumbai and Chennai, providing much-needed route diversity and increasing the resilience of India’s digital backbone.
Google is working with partners to deliver new transmission lines, clean energy generation, and energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh, expanding the diverse portfolio of clean energy contributing to India’s electricity grid.
