E quipped with Nokia technology, the new facility will allow service providers and network operators to test and validate 5G services and use cases.

Equinix reports that it has opened its 5G and Edge Technology Development Center at the company’s Dallas Equinix DA11 International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in Dallas. Equipped with Nokia technology, the facility allows service providers and network operators to test and validate 5G services and use cases.

The company announced plans for such a development center in June 2020. Equinix sees the new lab as a “sandbox” in which mobile network operators (MNOs), cloud platforms, technology vendors and companies can work to develop applications. The first company to take advantage of the facility is Exium, which has leveraged the capabilities of Secure Edge to enable secure, seamless, multi-access edge computing with tightly integrated security and networking features ranging from cloud to extreme locations and individual devices.

“Applications and artificial intelligence are on the edge, whether we’re ready or not,” commented Farooq Muzaffar, director of Exium COO. "Because companies are at the forefront of digital transformation, automation and intelligence, it is essential to have a partner like Equinix. 5G and the Edge Technology Development Center have been an incredible resource for us and our customers as we incubate, develop and deploy the secure cutting-edge AI services with 5G access."

“As companies develop new 5G technologies and services, they need a real-world environment to test and bring their ideas to life,” said Justin Dustzadeh, Chief Technology Officer, Equinix. “Through Equinix’s rich provider, partners and cloud ecosystem, 5G and the Edge Technology Development Center are the ideal place to truly test their concepts, enabling them to bring new capabilities to market, accelerate adoption and secure new revenue streams faster."

“Looking to a future where 5G is ubiquitous, the way IP traffic is fully transmitted worldwide will change completely, and interconnected data centers will play a crucial role in this new 5G-dominated future,” added Sean Hemphill, Vice President. Nokia Web Store.

In summary, "Equinix's approach to digital infrastructure enables it to reach a large ecosystem of end users and service providers. Nokia's IP solutions are the foundation of Equinix Fabric, providing seamless connectivity between its global data centers. We are pleased that Equinix Fabric is bringing connectivity to help customers to test real 5G and cutting-edge installations."
