C ygna Labs is acquiring Nokia's VitalQIP, adding tools to its DDI portfolio that CEO Christian Ehrenthal says will put Cygna Labs head-to-head with competitors like Infoblox and BlueCat. DDI software is the foundation of IP networks and includes Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and IP Address Management (IPAM).

VitalQIP will continue to be available as a stand-alone product line and is already integrated into Cygna Labs' portfolio of managed services, providing an optionality that Ehrenthal says will be key for existing and new customers.

“There is overlap with our existing product portfolio,” Ehrenthal told SDxCentral. "So customers won't suddenly be faced with the challenge of bringing the two together."

On-premises DDI solutions are a "must-have" for Cygna Labs' large-scale customers who can't yet migrate to the public cloud because of "Azure and AWS [Amazon Web Services] downtime," Ehrenthal explained. As a managed service, DDI can help take care of these on-premises solutions now and facilitate the eventual migration to the public cloud.
