W holesale player BICS has introduced a Nokia SDN controller to improve mobile routing and network performance by unlocking the ability to slice local and roaming traffic.
According to BICS, customized SDN offers more than short-term benefits by paving the way for longer-term 5G use cases, including network slicing and bandwidth planning.
Rafael de Fermin, vice president of network infrastructure at Nokia, said: SDN will be a "key element" of BICS, enabling the "delivery of next-generation 5G services."
Network slicing capabilities will help BICS attract "enterprises looking to adapt 5G for specific use cases," including IoT and M2M, he added.
Via LinkJorn Vercamert, vice president of products and solutions at BICS, added: SDN implementation is "a future investment for when the industry fully transitions to 5G and wants to deploy large-scale network slicing."
