Will lower revenues weaken Nokia's second-quarter earnings?

Nokia Corporation’s NOK report for the second quarter of 2020 results will be released on July 31, before the opening bell. At the end of March, the company’s earnings per share were in line with the Zacks Consensus estimate.

The Finnish telecommunications equipment manufacturer is likely to show lower total revenues compared to a year ago. This may be mainly due to the negative impact of COVID-19 on the general market. Nokia expects much of this impact to occur in the second quarter.

During the quarter under review, Nokia deployed the world’s first 450 MHz private wireless LTE network in Poland for energy network operators. The company has also expanded AirScale’s portfolio with new product innovations designed to meet the changing needs of 5G networks. OnePlus has selected Nokia's audio technology, OZO Audio, to power its OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone.

Nokia is the 5G network provider selected by Taiwan Star Telecom. The company has launched a new WaveFabric Elements optical portfolio for the 400G ecosystem to meet the growing needs of 5G and the cloud. Nokia and Vodafone Idea have completed the first phase of the largest deployment of Dynamic Spectrum Refarming in India.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has installed Nokia’s automation, analysis and machine learning software to improve customer service. China Unicom has selected Nokia's key networking products for 5G. Nokia has signed two contracts with Chinese-based web-centric giants Tencent and Baidu for network solutions to connect data centers. Such developments are likely to have had a positive impact on the company’s second-quarter top line.

Toyota Production Engineering Corporation has chosen for Nokia to install an industrial-grade private wireless network at its manufacturing plant in Fukuoka, Japan. National Broadband Ireland has chosen Nokia to deploy a fiber broadband solution in 540,000 rural buildings.
