Philippines - Mindanao Nokia Corporation NOK has announced that Converge ICT, the Philippines' leading Internet and digital service provider, has decided to provide a home fiber optic solution to deliver broadband services to the island of Mindanao. The service provider aims to expand network coverage by offering more than 300,000 homes and businesses over the next three years with excellent broadband services.

Nokia is well positioned to benefit from the copper and fiber deployment of the passive optical network. In this project, the Finnish-based company’s solution incorporates GPON technology, which allows Converge ICT to deliver higher speeds and better quality. Nokia ISAM FX has the flexibility to choose the fiber technology and installation density that best suits your service offering. This also includes the Nokia 7360 (ISAM) FX 8/4 platforms, which support 10G PON and beyond, as well as the software-defined access network.

Nokia's optical solution enables Converge ICT to provide customers with premium broadband service. The availability of fiber-based Internet access is likely to create new opportunities for Mindanao’s economic growth. The integration of the ICT infrastructure will allow it to provide an excellent broadband network for subscribers, especially during the COVID-19 epidemic. These are unprecedented times when people are increasingly using digital platforms for their daily activities.

Meanwhile, Nokia is making good progress in the mobile access business while boosting cash generation. The company aims to accelerate the timing and cost competitiveness of our products by 2020 with additional 5G investments. Nokia is showing a healthy momentum in the software and business focus areas, which is making a good contribution to the licensing business.
