Nokia and US Cellular today announced an agreement to expand 5G mmWave capabilities in the 24 GHz and 28 GHz frequency bands. USA Cellular is deploying Nokia’s award-winning AirScale portfolio with Cloud RAN capabilities to deliver an enhanced 5G mmWave mobile broadband (eMBB) device.

The deployment will also incorporate Nokia AirFrame’s open-edge cloud-based solution, enabling a virtualized RAN that offers scalable benefits such as reduced significant total cost of ownership (TCO) by automating simplification and increasing operational efficiencies, and open ecosystems. support.

To support US Cellular’s ​​state-of-the-art Internet and corporate customers, the company has also decided to incorporate Nokia’s Worldwide IoT Network Grid (WING) solution as an integration component, enabling faster and more cost-effective scaling of 5G IoT services.

US Cellular will begin multi-year deployment of 5G mmWave, scheduled for commercialization by 2021.
