T ommi Uitto, who has led Nokia's Mobile Networks business group since 2018, has now confirmed he's leaving Nokia after 30 years. Nokia announced its new strategy and restructuring at Capital Markets Day in November, when it announced that Tommi Uitto would step down from the company's board of directors on December 31, 2025.

okia's new organization will include Mobile Infrastructure as a second segment, combining Nokia's core and radio networks, as well as the Technology Standards business (formerly the technology business group responsible for patents and other licensing). The segment's interim president is CEO Justin Hotard.

It was not announced in November that Uitto would be leaving Nokia as a whole, but he has now confirmed that this will happen. According to Helsingin Sanomat, Justin Hotard, who started as Nokia CEO in early April 2025, did not get along with Uitto.

"I am leaving Nokia after 30 years of service. What a journey! Well, that would be an understatement. Lots of speed and dangerous corners, as we say at Nokia," Uitto writes in his X-post."

Uitto reiterates that over the past 30 years, tens of millions of radio units have been delivered to 300-400 operator customers.

"My work has taken me to 69 countries around the world, where I have met amazing people and cultures. We have worked together on five generations of mobile technology: 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G and early 6G projects," says Uitto.

In the final phase, Uitto was involved in facilitating the strategic partnership signed by Nvidia and Nokia at the end of October. To strengthen the partnership, Nvidia also invested $1 billion in Nokia. In his X publication, Uitto thanks his customers, colleagues and various partners.

"Thank you Nokia for allowing me to complete so many exciting, challenging and rewarding tasks. I will continue to follow and encourage you from the background in the coming years," concludes Uitto, wishing all the best to the people of Nokia.

Over the past seven years, Uitto has played a significant role in restoring the competitiveness of Nokia's mobile networks from a weak starting point in the early stages of the 5G era. Under Uitto's leadership, Nokia's mobile networks have stabilized and improved, even when the market was challenging and the mobile networks were not able to achieve the desired results.
