HMD to launch AirTag copycat and magnetic power bank soon

The company recently shared and quickly deleted cryptic social media posts that hinted at upcoming devices, including a potential competitor to Apple’s AirTag and a magnetic portable charger. However, the text in the posts doesn’t lend itself to products in any way, talking about unreleased devices. The social media updates were quickly removed and replaced with real text, but nothing ever disappears from the internet completely.

The second post read: “HMD Key makes it easy to track your important items with a single tap. Attach to your keys, connect to your phone, and find them in seconds. It’s a simple solution for a more organized and stress-free day.”

The product description could be for some kind of tracking device, not the HMD Key smartphone. So it seems like HMD is making a copycat of Apple’s AirTag tracker. It could be similar to Motorola’s Moto Tag, meaning it’s compatible with the Android ecosystem. However, the text does not advertise the HMD OffGrid satellite device.

Another social media post read: "Download the HMD Arcilla! This ultra-portable charging solution gives you that extra boost you need on the go. Fast charging and a stylish design make the HMD Arch the perfect travel companion."

Also, this description is not compatible with the HMD Arc. The text clearly advertises some kind of charger. For example, it could be a portable power bank, or it could be used to describe a magnetic power bank that is already visible in select markets. This power bank attaches to the back of the HMD Skyline using magnets and charges the phone wirelessly. However, the mysterious updates were removed by HMD, so they were released at an inconvenient time. However, it seems that HMD will release new accessories in the coming weeks.
