A new leak has provided a first look at an upcoming tablet designed specifically for children and their parents. Developed under the Xplora brand in collaboration with HMD, the device prioritizes durability over raw performance. This move extends the companies' existing lineup of child-friendly devices into the tablet market.
According to the revealed details, the Xplora Go Pad features a compact 8.7-inch IPS LCD display; specific resolution and refresh rate figures have not yet been disclosed. Under the hood, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 685—a 6nm chip featuring four Cortex-A73 performance cores and four Cortex-A53 efficiency cores. It also includes a 4G modem, enabling both cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity. Charging is capped at 18W, though the battery capacity remains unknown. Memory and storage specifications have not yet been confirmed.
Durability and parental controls appear to be the primary priorities. The tablet holds an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance and is designed to withstand drops of up to 100 cm. On the software front, it offers comprehensive parental control tools, including web monitoring, education-focused AI features, and harmful content blocking. Parents need to be able to manage internet and social media access, approved contacts, screen time limits, and location tracking.
This continues the partnership between HMD and Norway’s Xplora, who previously collaborated on the Fusion X1 smartphone. That phone focused on comprehensive parental controls, and the Go Pad adopts the same approach but applies it to a larger screen, making it better suited for learning and supervised media consumption.
Pricing, availability, and full technical specifications are not yet available, and neither HMD nor Xplora has officially commented on the leak. Nevertheless, the combination of a rugged design, mobile connectivity, and robust parental management tools suggests that the Go Pad will be a practical, safer choice for families seeking greater oversight of their children's screen time. Further details are expected to emerge soon, ahead of the official announcement.
