HMD yesterday launched a new budget smartphone in India, the HMD Vibe 2 5G is a simple smartphone designed for regular use and at a pocket-friendly price. HMD is known for offering affordable smartphones in India and the latest Vibe 2 5G reflects this strategy. The smartphone offers a 6000mAh battery, a relatively large HD+ display, a 50MP primary camera and AI features.
The HMD Vibe 2 5G starts at INR 10,999 (GBP 85, EUR 98, USD 114) for the base model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It is also available in another variant with the same RAM but 128GB storage, and that is priced at INR 11,999 (GBP 92, EUR 107, USD 124). The smartphone is available in Cosmic Lavender, Nordic Blue, and Peach Pink color variants and will go on sale on May 26 at 12 PM on Flipkart.
About INR 10,999 (GBP 85, EUR 98, USD 114) and 128GB storage, and that is priced at INR 11,999 (GBP 92, EUR 107, USD 124)
The HMD Vibe 2 5G features a fairly large 6.7-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a U-shaped notch. This display is typical for its price and should be good enough for content consumption, social media scrolling, and light gaming. The smartphone is powered by a Unisoc T8200, which suggests basic usage and nothing too extreme like heavy gaming. Even so, it is sufficient for everyday tasks and activities. Phones like the OPPO K14X might be a better alternative for slightly better performance.
In terms of optics, you get a 50MP AI dual camera with LED flash and an 8MP front camera. This is a basic camera setup designed for casual photography. With the AI features, the smartphone can take photos for social media. While this camera setup may be enough for everyday photography, there are phones like the Galaxy M17 that offer a triple camera system in the same price range.

In terms of software, the HMD Vibe 2 5G runs Android 16 out of the box with a clean UI. Interestingly, the smartphone will not receive any major OS updates, but it will receive two years of quarterly security updates. So if you are looking to use the phone for the long term, this might not be a wise decision as the phone will not be updated to the latest Android version.
The HMD Vibe 2 5G is a basic, budget smartphone that is also comfortable to use. It is recommended for students or anyone upgrading from an old 4G phone. While the phone is good enough for regular use, if you want better performance or cameras, you might want to look at alternatives.
