HMD has unveiled new Nokia-branded 4G feature phones that bring surprisingly modern features to the traditional implementation. The new models include the Nokia 200 4G, Nokia 210 4G, Nokia 215 4G 2nd Edition, and Nokia 235 4G 2nd Edition.
All models are tied together by 4G connectivity, USB-C connectivity, a removable battery, and support for the S30+ operating system. The biggest change, however, is on the software side, as HMD will be bringing video calling, an AI assistant, and Cloud Phone Service to the keypad phones, among other things.
Video calling in particular is a significant new addition to Nokia’s traditional phones. The new models feature a front-facing camera that allows users to make video calls via the Xpress chat app. The app can be used for voice messages, text messages, images, emojis, and group chats. According to HMD, Xpress Chat is also available for smartphones via Google Play and the App Store, so video calling is not limited to Nokia phone users.
Another significant change is the dedicated AI assistant button. By pressing the button, the user can activate the voice assistant, which can be used to turn on the flashlight, set alarms and reminders, or call a contact, for example. You can also ask the assistant various questions. According to HMD, the AI assistant will be free to use for a 180-day trial period, after which a fee will be charged for the service. A smartphone app is required to purchase a subscription.
The third new feature is the Cloud Phone Service, which aims to bring smartphone-like services to phones without taking up space on the device's memory. Through the service, you can access news, weather information, sports scores, matches, videos and other online content through personalized shortcuts on your phone.
The Nokia 200 4G is the simplest new addition to the range. It has a 2.4-inch QVGA display, a VGA-level front camera, Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a removable 1450 mAh battery. HMD promises up to 13 days of standby time and up to 9 hours of talk time on the phone. Memory card support is available up to 32 GB. The color options are black, blue and yellow.
The Nokia 210 4G continues with the same structure, but in addition to the front camera, it also includes a VGA-level rear camera with LED flash. The phone has a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 128 MB of internal storage, 64 MB of RAM and supports a 32 GB microSD memory card. The battery size is the same, 1450 mAh, and HMD promises up to 13 days of standby time and 9 hours of talk time. The colors are dark blue and silver.
The Nokia 215 4G 2nd edition has a larger 2.8-inch IPS display. The phone has a VGA front camera for video calls, but no rear camera. The device has 128 MB of internal storage, 64 MB of RAM and 32 GB microSD support. The 1450 mAh removable battery promises up to 12 days of standby time and up to 10 hours of talk time. The color options are black and red.
The Nokia 235 4G 2nd edition also has a 2.8-inch IPS display. There's a VGA camera on the front for video calling, and a 2-megapixel camera with LED flash on the back. The Nokia 235 4G Edition 2 offers 128 megabytes of storage, 64 megabytes of RAM, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C connectivity, and a 1,450 mAh removable battery.
All new devices support 2G, 3G, and 4G networks, as well as two nano-SIM cards. In addition, there's an FM radio that works in both wired and wireless modes. HMD has not yet announced pricing or availability for the new phones in Finland.
