India's Ministry of Communications has given approval to 42 companies, including Nokia, Samsung, Ericsson Associate, Jabil, Flextronics, Tejas Networks, VVDN and HFCL under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom and network goods . Enterprises have targeted investments worth INR 4115 billion.

Out of the total mandate, 17 companies availed 1% extra incentive under design based manufacturing standards.

“This (funding) will generate ₹2.45 trillion in additional gross sales and more than 44,000 new jobs over the life of the program,” the ministry said in a press release on Monday. "India will emerge as a design and manufacturing hub for telecom and networking equipment," the federal government added.

The Union price category introduced a design-led PLI scheme for telecom and networking goods to create a strong home-grown chain, which provided an additional 1% incentive over and above the incentives for goods designed and manufactured in India.

The design-led PLI program was launched in June 2022, and features, among others, were invited by design-led manufacturers to take advantage of the 5-year incentives under the PLI scheme starting April 1, 2022.

Companies under the current PLI scheme for telecom and network goods have been allowed to add extra goods and apply the proposed PLI scheme under it. They also have the added bonus of pushing the 5-year PLI program interval by 12 months.

The ministry added that 22 companies took advantage of this opportunity to relocate in the first 12 months, including 13 companies that were recently designated.
