E lisa, Nokia and the PS Foundation, founded by Peter Sarlin, are launching a project aimed at strengthening children's understanding of artificial intelligence in Finland. Up to 19,000 sixth graders will learn about using artificial intelligence in the first year at Yrityskylän.
The collaboration aims to provide schoolchildren with a concrete, age-appropriate way to understand what artificial intelligence is, how it works and how it affects the world around them. The project is being implemented in collaboration with NYT Yrityskylä and IchiZero Oy and will be implemented in four Yrityskyläs (Espoo, Ostrobothnia, North Ostrobothnia and Southwest Finland) from September 2026.
The AI project aims to give students a clear understanding of how AI works and its possibilities and limitations. The learning experience offered combines robotics, digital tools and teacher-led learning tasks, supporting the safe, guided and pedagogically sound use of artificial intelligence in Finnish education.
The project is designed to meet the guidelines of the Finnish National Agency for Education and the Ministry of Education and Culture for the safe and pedagogically sound use of artificial intelligence technologies in schools. The goal in the first year is to reach approximately 19,000 sixth-grade students and create a model that can be applied more widely, both nationally and internationally.
"The co-creation of technology, education and research is key to solving the problem of how AI can be used safely and for the benefit of society. This program demonstrates how AI can be brought into schools in a controlled and responsible way. It also shows how Nokia, together with its customers and other partners, is working to bridge the digital divide, in this case by developing digital skills," says Esa Niinimäki, Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs and Governance, Nokia.
Elisa and Nokia are committed to strengthening digital skills, the responsible use of AI and the development of future skills among young people. The companies also want to promote broader social goals, such as digital inclusion, critical thinking and awareness of the impact of AI on communities and the environment.

The PS Foundation was founded by Peter Sarlin, founder and former CEO of Silo AI, with the aim of strengthening AI research and competitiveness in Finland and Europe.
Bella was originally developed at Nokia's Bell Labs research unit and is currently being developed by the Finnish company IchiZero Oy. In addition to the robot, Bella also includes a browser-based app and a set of structured lessons and assignments that allow teachers to show students how they learn, make mistakes, and improve.
